4. Expertise
Our faculty are experts in their fields and particularly strong in the areas of science and health communication, advertising, public relations, emerging communication technology, including AI, and communication history and law.

We offer excellent financial support: fully funded students receive a funding package of $43,300 per year plus $800 in travel grants (each year for three years) and a one-time research stipend of $500.

You will work closely with our faculty, who conduct interdisciplinary research across the University of South Carolina and beyond. Carnegie Classifications list the University of South Carolina as an Institution of “Highest Research Activity.”

Our curriculum will allow you to obtain the quantitative and qualitative research skills required for a successful career in the academic arena or in industry.
8. Commitment to Teaching
You will complete our program knowing how to teach college courses. Most fully-funded students serve as the instructor of record in multiple undergraduate courses. Our program is one of the few requiring a Seminar in Teaching Mass Communication.
