Background

Leigh Ramey currently works as the user experience librarian at Beaufort County Library. Prior to this role, she was the youth services consultant at the South Carolina State Library from 2021-2025. She also worked as a youth services supervisor and children's librarian in other public libraries in South Carolina and Colorado. She also taught as an adjunct with the University of Denver from 2019-2024.

Research

Ramey is interested in research topics related to children's and teen library services and especially interested in those pertaining to early literacy and play.

Teaching

Ramey currently teaches one of the children's literature courses at the School of Information Science and loves discussing this exciting and ever evolving topic with students and colleagues. She infuses her classes with a broad experience working with children in public libraries, consulting and training on literacy topics at a state library, serving on book award committees, and other previous experiences working or volunteering with children in schools, group homes, medical facilities and summer camps. Ramey values the unique perspectives and backgrounds of her students and welcomes an open exchange of ideas!

Service

Ramey is a member and volunteer with the South Carolina Library Association, American Library Association, and CSLP — the Collaborative Summer Library Program.

Personal

 When not working (or reading, of course), Ramey enjoys a good road trip, beach days, kitty cuddles, yoga, chocolate, movies and spoiling her niece and nephews.
